Great Summer Reading Suggestions
This past year I have been reading some pretty amazing books and I thought I would put in a plug for them so some of you can read them over the summer if you get a minute.
The first one is Wrestling Prayer by Eric and Leslie Ludy.  I love their writing style…He writes a chapter then she writes a chapter.  But even better is their topic.  This couple actually gave up all forms of entertainment to trade the time for prayer!  The book has inspired me to pray more and I now have a list of 40 people I am praying for every day!  My Gap Sisters and I did a Wrestling Prayer retreat day recently and it was an incredible time with the Lord!

The next book I highly recommend is Crazy Love by Francis Chan.  Be prepared to find yourself doing some pretty crazy things after reading this book however!  For example, our family is going to turn our upcoming vacation into a family mission trip as we do a 5 day club for the homeless families we have encountered during past vacations to the spot where we stay!  All of us (including the 5 year old) will be doing this evangelistic outreach!  The book is all about God’s unrelenting love toward us and how our love back to Him looks in real life.  There is a DVD you can get if you want to do it as a study with your small group.

The next book/DVD I would like to recommend is When God’s People Pray by Jim Cymbala.  There is an AWESOME DVD that goes with this study guide.  In fact, I have loved this so much, I have watched it as a study with my Gap Sisters, I have watched it with my family and I have recommended it to every small group that we “coach” at church.  It is such an encouraging study!

Another series I love is by Stormie OMartian.  One of my favorite books by her is The Prayer That Changes Everything.  When my husband and I were going through a really intense trial, we really found comfort and growth through this book!

I use another one of her books, The Power of a Praying Wife.  I use this book every day and pray one of the chapters for my husband.  I love doing this as it has made my love for him really grow and I’ve seen God do some amazing things!
