So Blessed

So Blessed
So Blessed.  That’s my “status” tonight on my facebook page.  It really is the status of my life though.  It’s not just tonight.  I posted that because Josh is going to his second prom and he looks so handsome!  I feel so blessed that this child of mine that almost didn’t survive his “Life threatening episode” of 16 years ago is not only alive, but he is ABUNDANTLY alive and is going to a prom!
But there are so many other reasons to post that I am blessed.  I have two children that are not only surviving college, they are thriving!  Both of them have found a little niche to serve the Lord on the campus and are loving it!  It warms my heart to hear their stories of the people they are meeting and the pebbles they are placing into their shoes.  This past week we had someone come speak to our “C-group” kids (the small youth group that is here at our house every week) and he told the kids to “Put pebbles in people’s shoes”.  He explained that a pebble in someone’s shoe is a question or a comment that makes him or her stop and think about Jesus as they go about their day.  It doesn’t exactly stop a person in their tracks but it comes to mind as they are walking along and they have to really ponder it.  The Bible would call it a “seed”.  I couldn’t ask for anything better than having adult children that are willing to be seed planters or pebble placers!
Another blessing is a husband that I still find interesting and lovable after being married to him for 28 years and just plain knowing him for 31 years!  That is more than half my lifetime now and he is still the person that makes me laugh and hugs me when my back has betrayed me and I’m in pain.  Just last night we prayed for some friends of ours that are going through a tough time.  He spoke his concern as he was trying to fall asleep and both of us immediately agreed that what we should do is pray.  So we did.  We feel people’s pain now.  We understand their worried looks or their heartfelt fear and I love it that he is immediately ready to fall to his knees with me on behalf of someone else – or even for us.  This is a huge blessing!
Butterfly kisses and a little girl that is so afraid to lose her third tooth that she is now cutting her sandwiches in pieces so it won’t get swallowed, is another reason I am blessed.  I love her little-girl words.  This morning she was so excited to be the first one to discover the momma duck taking her four, new ducklings for a swimming lesson down the creek behind our house!  It was contagious excitement!  She turned to me and said, “Mom, I was looking for the ‘Goose-lets’ but we have ducklings instead!”  I giggled at the word “Goose-lets” and she laughed too.  She realized immediately it wasn’t the right word but sometimes things are so cute you hate to correct it.  Oh, that is a blessing!  Another one was when she saw a puppy and she said, “ohhh, it is so cute and beautiful it is cutiful!”   I treasure those moments and words!
My wonderful little ten year old is having a “No Real Reason At All” Party with his friends tonight.  The sparkle in his eye all week as he has planned, shopped, cooked and talked to his six closest friends about it has been another reason I call myself blessed.  What sweetness that he wants to spend time with his friends and is so excited about it.  His big brother is out playing Capture the Flag with them so that my wee one can feel like she is a part of the game.  I hear her frantically calling him from her vantage point and he is running to her rescue to help her defend her flag.  I am so blessed to have children that will play with each other and will show each other such respect by caring about what the six year old needs in a ten year old game!

Psalm 16:5 & 6 says, “Lord, you alone are my inheritance, my cup of blessing. You guard all that is mine.
The land you have given me is a pleasant land.
What a wonderful inheritance.”  I know I say it all the time, but Jesus really is my biggest reason for feeling blessed.  For the Bible study I am doing I have been memorizing Isaiah 64:4 which says, “From ancient times, no one has heard, no ear has perceived, no eye has seen any God besides you, who acts on behalf of those who wait for Him.”  This is so true!  God is actively involved in my life and for that, I am so very blessed!
