Grateful…so very grateful

Ok friends, every once in awhile God gives us a sighting that shows how very GREAT HE IS.  This little story is one of those times for me.  I hope this encourages you to keep in step with the Spirit of God and obey even if you don’t know the “WHY” of what He is asking you to do!
Here is an amazing GOD STORY that happened to me and my husband yesterday.  In the morning as I was having my quiet time, I felt the Holy Spirit telling me to fast.  I asked the Holy Spirit why I needed to fast yesterday but no answer came…just the knowing in my spirit that I NEEDED to fast.  My husband was going to have the architect inspect the wall of windows we have been putting in on the building there in West Virginia yesterday so I thought, “Maybe I am fasting for God to help the inspection go well.”  At about 4pm I was going into Kroger and again I asked the Lord why I was fasting.  (Going into Kroger is tough when you are fasting because everything smells so delicious).  But again, no real answer, so I went around Kroger praying for my husband, the inspection, and generally for “whatever the Lord had me fasting for”.  At about 6pm I clearly heard the Lord telling me I was done with the fast…so after soccer I ate dinner with the children and waited for my husband to call me and tell me how his day went in West Virginia.

He said, “Well, I had an exciting day today!”  (I was so glad to hear that…but he was not saying exciting as in good exciting, he was saying exciting as in scary exciting!).  He said, “We started the inspection at the 14th floor and there were three of us on the swing stage.”  (That is the thing you see on tv that hangs over a building from the roof and lowers a person or a couple of people down from the top to wash windows – or in this case, we put in windows from the outside of this really tall building).  He said, “We had done the inspection of floors 14 – 12 and were at the 11th floor WHEN THE SWING STAGE BROKE!  (It did not free fall but was stuck at floor 11 on the outside of the building – 150 feet up from the ground!)  The up down button had COME OFF THE MOTOR!   Since my husband spent his early career years on a Nuclear Powered submarine, he is not unfamiliar with crisis, so he said, “I stayed calm and got out my cell phone and called one of my workers that was on the ground to come up the 11th floor with tools…because I realized that all other floors of the building have not opening windows but for whatever reason, the 11th floor is the ONLY FLOOR THAT HAS WINDOWS THAT OPEN!  So they came and gave me the tools I asked for and the architect was not doing too well from the fright of the situation so the men hauled him in through the window!”  My husband went on to explain that he really didn’t know how exactly to fix the swing stage but he prayed, unplugged it (and it didn’t go falling down) and then just fixed the button like he knew exactly what he was doing!  The architect reluctantly got back on the swing stage and they completed the inspection…they had one more incident of the button coming off when they were at the 7th floor and when it did, the swing stage was hanging down on one side 30 degrees but again, my husband fixed it and they finished and went back UP and all went well.  Today they are getting a new swing stage (of course) and we were given a great inspection despite the drama.  When we compared notes it was at that EXACT TIME that I was praying in Kroger and I didn’t even know that I was praying for my husband’s SAFETY!!!

Then this morning when I was having my quiet time I had to laugh because I had written in my journal yesterday that the Psalm the Lord had given me to start the day said,

“1 I lift up my eyes to the mountains—
where does my help come from?
2 My help comes from the LORD,
the Maker of heaven and earth.

3He will not let your foot slip—
he who watches over you will not slumber;
4 indeed, he who watches over Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.

5 The LORD watches over you—
the LORD is your shade at your right hand;
6 the sun will not harm you by day,
nor the moon by night.

7 The LORD will keep you from all harm—
he will watch over your life;
8 the LORD will watch over your coming and going
both now and forevermore. (Psalm 121)
I am SO GRATEFUL that we serve and LOVE the awesome GOD we do!
