I Can Do It

Posted by on Mar 22, 2012 in Christian Living, direction, Faith during trials, Gap Sister's SECC, God's Leading | 0 comments

When I have thoughts that are really too big for me
Where do I go, Lord, who do I see?
When I dream of a plan that is huge and obnoxious,
How do I make it mine and delicious?

When “excellent” is written all over my heart
How do I grasp it, Lord where do I start?
Abundant life, Lord. That’s what I want!
To run and not limp, through this short life jaunt.

I can DO it!” – with you Jesus, whatever you ask
Any job, any trial, any large or small task.
So help me squash that old snake, the father-of-lies
Because he discourages me so – or at least he sure tries!

His plan is to get me so caught up in ME
That “I can’t”, “it’s too hard” is all that I see.
Put a stop to him, Lord, send him crashing away
Give him a kick when in YOUR presence I Stay.

Help me be more of You with Your “I make you great”
For that’s just what you do when upon you I wait.
What an odd paradox that when I wait I get done
Just what you ask me, than when on my own gas I run.

Fill me today with Your words and Your thoughts
So tonight I can say, “in His strength I have fought.”
Help me today God, in all that I do
To let all that I meet say that they have seen YOU.

Reflect out the windows of my very soul
As you You perfect me Lord, and You make me whole.

I can do it”, Oh Lord, but not without help.
So keep in mind as You train me, I am just a small whelp.
Keep me on a short leash Lord, lest I stumble and fall.
In fact, if You know I can’t take it, then I want none at all!

Cause’ I only want Your will, Your thoughts in my head
I want to love YOU only, not myself or my bread.
Oh how I DO love You, fill me up even more
Lord, open my heart up and just start to pour!

What is a Gap Sister’s Group?

Posted by on Nov 28, 2011 in Gap Sisters Guide | 0 comments

What is a Gap Sister’s Group?

“What is A Gap Sisters Group?”  A Gap Sisters group is a prayer group that can be formed in any venue.  Gap stands for “God Answers Prayer”.  Gap sisters “Stand in the Gap” for and with each other.  Our Gap Sisters group started with two women meeting together to pray for their husbands and family.  Word spread and within a few weeks it was not just two women, it was a group of women.  Before long, we needed a real room.  (We had been sneaking into the Bride’s Changing Room at our church).  Our group has now been meeting for nine years.

Some helpful things to keep in mind when starting a Gap Sisters group are:  CONFIDENTIALITY IS A KEY!  This is one of the biggest factors that must be strictly maintained.  In fact, it is a good idea to have this policy written down and have new people sign that they understand that what is prayed for is not to be shared – even if it is a “praise”.  One thing I have had to fight is the urge from some of the sisters to “Share things with their husbands”.  I understand this desire to share as they feel they are “one in the flesh” so why can’t they share?  This should really be discouraged.  In fact, if your Gap Sisters group develops an email loop (more on that in a bit), please ask that the email address be a private one – not the family email loop. Fret Free Friday Continues

Posted by on Oct 20, 2011 in Gap Sister's SECC | 0 comments

Well Girls,
We finished our study on prayer and yet Fret Free Friday continues.  In fact, I am loving it so much, I’ve gotten to the point where I pull out my trusty envelope and ask Jesus to intercede for me on other days too! That peace that surpasses all understanding is so delicious!

This week my Fret Free Friday adoration focus will be on adoring Jesus because He is the PRINCE OF PEACE.  My friend is at the hospital with her husband and the diagnosis is pretty dire.  But her faith is AMAZING!!  We have prayed for peace and the Lord has been right on time with it!

Another friend of mine is in the thick of kid issues…once again, God has been quick to deliver that wonderful fruit of the Holy Spirit…peace for the journey.

I hope you will consider trying Fret Free Friday for yourself.  If peace and a wonderful time with Jesus are what sounds like a nice way to end your week…this is definitely for you!  (I’m including the link to my pretty lame video I threw up on Youtube to explain how to do a Fret Free Friday).

Prayer Topics month of September

Posted by on Sep 28, 2011 in Gap Sister's SECC | 0 comments

Hey Gap Sisters and Friends,
This last week we studied “Supplication” as our prayer topic.  I’ll admit, this was a tough topic to teach on.  Not so much because it is hard to do…(presenting our requests to God,) but rather, it is tough because many times this is all we do.  We just continually run in to God and blurt out all we need and then give Him a big “High Five” and skip out again.
I told you the story of how my little guy, Gabe, came to me one summer day a few years ago with his broken toy clutched tightly in his little fist.  He had been playing in the sandbox and it had broken for the gazillionth time and here he was, hot and sweaty waving the toy at me because he wanted me to fix it again.  I was on the phone when he galloped into the kitchen and the rule at our house is that if mom is on the phone, you must not TALK…you must WAIT.  So he was waiting – impatiently – dancing and waving the toy in front of me to yell to me with nonverbal communication that, “HE NEEDED HELP”!

Are you "Pushing the Envelope"?

Posted by on Sep 26, 2011 in Gap Sister's SECC | 0 comments

Hi Gap Sisters,
Remember, we have been doing “Fret Free Friday”each Friday this month…but have been starting to prepare for Friday every Monday morning.  If you’ve missed it, jump in now!  Pray down the Adoration Names of God List as you ask the Holy Spirit to let the name or attribute He wants you to focus on this week to JUMP OUT AT YOU.  I find it totally amazing that this really does happen just like that!  This past week I asked the Holy Spirit what He wanted me to focus on.  I was really hoping for Jehovah Jireh because with the economy like it is, I really need some “Provider God” action in my life.  But alas, He was insisting on “Jesus is my SAVIOR”…well, savior could be provider, right?  He could be saving me from financial disaster, right?

Work with me here, girls!  He IS my savior-provider but the point He was hammering home was that HE IS SAVIOR…so all week I explored that in scripture.  I wrote down the verses He led me to through the use of my reference Bible.  On Wednesday it became really apparent that I needed to pray with the mom of one of my “C-group” kids.  The young person is really struggling right now and the Holy Spirit directly told me in my quiet time on Thursday morning, following the “youth group” that we have in our home on Wednesdays, to call his mom and offer to meet with her to pray.  So immediately I contacted her.  (I have learned NOT to put it off if I get one of those “I know-to-the-bottom-of-my-toes-the-Holy-Spirit-is-telling-me-this” kind of messages.  He doesn’t really respond well to me when I am slow to obey), so on the phone I went!  We set up our prayer session for Friday morning at 6am at the church.

The plan was going well until I realized, “YIKES!  FRET FREE FRIDAY…how will I intercede when I am not interceding on Fridays but am asking JESUS TO DO IT FOR MY REQUESTS?”  So, back into the prayer closet I crawled.  Oh, how I love that Holy Spirit!  He whispered, “follow my lead…do some FIERCE FRIDAY FIGHTING FIRST…then have FRET FREE FRIDAY”.  So that is what we did.  The precious mom and I spent a couple of hours going before the throne of GRACE and we just waged war on the struggle her son is going through.  When our time was up though, we put the whole mess into an envelope and handed it to Jesus.  Jesus was more than happy to take it from us because guess what?  (Do you remember from the beginning of the article what my adoration focus for the week was?)  YUP, we got to immediately start to praise HIM because HE IS OUR SAVIOR…He is MIGHTY TO SAVE and we can be Overcome by His presence!  Oh, what a sweet realization after laboring in prayer like that!  Even Precious Mom knew her son was safe in the envelope!

I hope you will really try out Fret Free Friday, girls!  The JOY and the PEACE is delicious!!

Prayer Topics month of September

Posted by on Sep 14, 2011 in Gap Sister's SECC | 0 comments

Hi Gap Sisters,
I know it has been awhile since I blogged.  Sorry!  Life is so busy right now!  I wanted to give you a few tools to keep going with our Prayer Topics that we have been doing for the month of September.  First of all, remember to try to prepare for Fret Free Friday.  Here is the lame YouTube video I made to explain it: Fret Free Friday Pep Talk
Remember we discussed our first week that one of the biggest hindrances to an effective prayer time is the “Wandering Mind”?  In class, you were all able to help define some of the ways to overcome that wandering mind.  Here is the list:
1.             Have a regular Prayer Appointment…keep the time, place and routine fairly regular.
2.             Make a LIST
3.             Train your mind to BE STILL
4.             Pray out loud
5.             Journal
6.             Breathe…even say out loud the name “Jesus” in order to shut out distractions
7.             Have a posture of prayer.  We erroneously said there is no mention in scripture of sitting and praying but there is!  Here is a list taken from the following article online: Prayer Positions in Scripture
1.  Eyes open – John 11:41 / John 17:1
2.  Tears shed – 1 Samuel 1:7-10/ Psalm 126:5-6
3.  Shout/applaud/cheer – Ezra 3:11-14/ Ps 47:1
4.  Sing – Psalm 100:4/ Ephesians 5:19
5.  Loud voice – Acts 7:60
6.  Unison – (Homo-thumadon) rush together making same noise – Acts 4:24
7.  Speak to obstacle – Joshua 10:12 “Sun stand still”/ Mat. 21:21
8.  Speak with no sound – I Samuel 1:7-10
9.  Say “Amen” to others prayers – I Cor. 14:16
10. Fast – 2 Samuel 12:16/ Isaiah 58:6
11.  Stand up – Nehemiah 9:3-5
12.  Kneel – Eph. 3:14/ Philip.2:9-11
13.  Lay down on bed – 2 Kings 20:2
14.  Lay face on ground – 2 Chronicles 7:3
15.  Walk (pace) – 2 Kings 4:33-35
16.  Squat/bow down 1 Kings 18:42/ Ps. 95:6
17.  Dance – 2 Samuel 6:14-16
18.  Walk away be restored – Mat. 5:23-24
19.  Sackcoth & Ashes – 2 Kings 19:1
20.  Sit – Mt. 26:36 / Mark 14:32,37-38
21.  Bow head – Isaiah 58:5
22.  Raise hands in praise – Psalm 134:2/ 143:6
23.  Raise hands in authority – Exodus 17 8-15/Heb.12:11-12
24.  Touch together the thing – Mat. 18:19 (sumphoneo)
25.  Lift hand in blessing – Luke 24:50
26.  Lay hands on (for commisioning) – Hebrews 6:2/ 1 Tim. 4:14
27.  Anoint – Mark 6:13/ James 5:13-15
28.  Spread it before the Lord – 2 Kings 19:14-15
Please read the scriptures for Matthew 26:36 and Mark 14:32, 27-38 to see what happened when they SAT though…(they fell asleep!)  So consider trying some of the other postures of prayer.
Here is the link to the document which has the alphabetical listing of the adoration names of God: Adoration Names of God ABC List
This past Sunday we talked about daily Communion and how this can help us “keep a short list” with God as far as stuff that would clutter our lives as we try to adore Him. We are trying to lay down our lives daily and die to SELF so that Christ can be glorified.
We talked about how full of grace God is as He points out our shortcomings though.  We made a vow to acknowledge Romans 8:1 as TRUTH every time we confess our sins…it says, “Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”  And also, we will rejoice in 1 John 1:9 which says, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
So as we prepare for another Fret Free Friday, we are again asking the Lord to give us the name or characteristic that belongs to Him that HE wants us to adore about Him this week.  We daily take communion letting Him show us anything that is not to His liking in our lives and we agree with Him on it.  We hate and forsake those things and ask Him for help to give up those pet sins or things He points out and then we turn our focus back to Him and we run to His word.  We follow the trail of the attribute so that on Friday we are totally ready to worship Him.
Keep going, sweet Gap Sisters!  Even if this all seems so foreign or superficial, remember that this is the father of lies trying to mock your sincere steps of faith.  RESIST him so that he will flee from you.  FIX YOUR MIND on the author and FINISHER of your faith so that JESUS will work those acts of righteousness in you.
I am plodding along with you, girls.  We can DO THIS!

Week 4 Scripture Memory Verse

Posted by on May 23, 2011 in Gap Sister's SECC | 0 comments

Hi Girls,
How are you coming on your TRUTH THOUGHTS CHALLENGE?  Right now I am listening to the track titled, “You Are Protected”.  AWESOME TRUTH!

Ok, here is the verse we should all be working on:

ISAIAH 61:4
“They will rebuild the ancient ruins and restore the places long devastated; they will renew the ruined cities that have been devastated for generations.”

Remember girls, we don’t rebuild all by ourselves – GOD is the MASTER BUILDER and HE can set us FREE!  It is a NEW DAY and HE makes all things NEW!

Hi Gap Sisters,
I am reminding you of our Month of May TRUTH THOUGHTS challenge…
Listen to ONE TRACK every day for the month of May (at least one time a day) from either of the Scripture Medley CDs from Erin Campbell’s website.  (You should each have a CD and if you don’t, let me know and I’ll give you a CD).  Let the Holy Spirit tell you which track HE wants to wash your mind with!  Since we are doing the Breaking FREE study, I have chosen #2.  of the “Who Am I In Christ?” CD which is titled, “You Are Free”.
