How to Become a Runner in God’s Family
In case any of you would like to know how to win the race…we are all runners, you know…here is what the Bible has to say. I am not much of a runner in real life…a “loper”, really. I just plod along and after about 40 minutes I am done putting one foot in front of the other but in my MIND I am a gazelle! But I’m not going to lie…I wouldn’t win any prizes for my running! My prayer is that you are not just going through the motions of life, thinking you are doing kind deeds and that this makes you ok with God…please, read what God’s word says and let HIM make you into a runner that wins the prize of heaven…of JESUS in your life.
The Bible, the holy, inspired word of God, says, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved.” That in a nut shell is the whole gospel…put your faith in what Jesus Christ has done for you when He paid your penalty for sin by dying on the cross. Believe that He rose again on the third day and that He is now in heaven, sitting at the right hand of God His father and that He sent us the Holy Spirit to dwell in us when we accept that gift.
You see, the Bible points out in Romans 3:23 that “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Then in Romans 6:23 it says, “For the wages (payment) for sin is death (separation from God for eternity), but the GIFT of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ.” It then goes on to say in I John 1:9, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sin and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” WOW! What a promise! If I will pray to Jesus, acknowledge that I have sinned (done what is not right in God’s eyes), accept His gift of cleansing me from that sin, I can have the gift of being one of His children…adopted into His family…a runner in the race that ends with the prize being life in heaven with Him – KING JESUS forever!
If you would like to pray to receive the gift, and become a runner…just pray. Talk to Jesus as though you are talking to your friend. You can pray out loud or pray in your head – God reads our thoughts. Say something like this: “Lord Jesus, I admit that I have sinned. I believe that when you died on the cross, you were paying my penalty for that sin. I also believe that when you arose from the grave on the third day, You were freeing me from that sin. I now invite you to live in me, and right now to cleanse me from my sin. I ask you to help me to trust you and learn of you. Thank you that I am now a member of your family and will someday live with you in heaven.”
One of the best parts about accepting Jesus as your savior is that you will never “run alone again”! He is always with us and He gives us the gift of His Holy Spirit dwelling in us to guide us, comfort us, give us peace. You can talk to Jesus any time, anywhere. His word says, “I will never leave you or forsake you!”
The biggest prayer I can ever pray is that YOU, the reader of my blog, will realize how “high and how deep, how long and how wide the love Jesus has for you” and you will want to become a runner in HIS family. This race is exciting, it is an abundant LIFE, fueled by His living water. Once you become a runner, try to read God’s word, the Bible every day. It will dramatically change your life.
